Osnovna škola "Mato Lovrak" Nova Gradiška

In the village of Mačkovac there is a small modern country school built in 1987 with a teacher's flat. Since noone has ever lived in it we have put some army bunk beds there and started our own «school in nature» with all the relevant educational programs:  

1. HISTORY

- there is an archeological site of so called «Dolina culture» only 800 meters far from 
the school with artefacts dating from Late Bronze Age.
- the area near the River Sava was well known as «Military region» in the past when there was the Turkish border, but there are little finds of that time.

2. SCIENCE

- The River Sava with its flora and fauna, woods, grazing lands, plough-fields, gardens, ponds and meadows rich in plants and animals

3. ECONOMY

-farm yards, farming machinery, milking machines and lacto-freezers, mini golf course, boats on the river, domestic animals (cows, horses, pigs, poultry, rabbits,pidgeons)

4. SOCIAL SKILLS DEVELOPMENT

-walking to all destinations, collecting samples, learning in the open, building a campfire, fishing, roasting corn on the cob, playing mini golf, playing on grass courts, tidying up the bedrooms, helping with food serving, cleaning up after meals, making friends with the children from the village etc. This is only a small part of it because children's imagination has no limits. It's wonderful.
